Mahama: Over 1 Million Ghanaians Gain Jobs, 950,000 Escape Poverty
President Mahama cites strong job creation, poverty reduction, and a $9.1 billion current account surplus as indicators of Ghana’s growing economic resilience

- Over 1 million Ghanaians gained employment between Q1 and Q3 of 2025
- Approximately 950,000 people escaped multidimensional poverty during the same period
- Ghana recorded a $9.1 billion current account surplus, driven by exports and remittance inflows
President John Dramani Mahama has announced significant progress in employment and poverty reduction, revealing that more than one million Ghanaians found jobs between the first and third quarters of 2025.
Speaking on Friday, February 27, the President cited Ghana Statistical Service data showing that approximately 950,000 people also exited multidimensional poverty during the same period.
“This improvement indicates that our economy is gaining strength and resilience on the global stage. We are moving decisively from planning to action on our flagship 24-hour economy,” Mahama stated.
He further highlighted strong performance in Ghana’s external sector, noting that by December 2025, the current account recorded a $9.1 billion surplus, equivalent to 8.1% of GDP, up from 1.8% in 2024.
The President attributed these gains to robust exports in gold, cocoa, and non-traditional goods, along with increased remittance inflows, describing the trend as a clear sign of renewed economic resilience.
