National Chief Imam sets February 18 for Ramadan 2026 moon sighting, fasting may begin February 19 or 20

- Crescent moon for Ramadan 2026 expected to be sighted on February 18.
- First day of fasting to begin February 19 if sighted, or February 20 if not.
- Announcement follows 32nd Annual National Ramadan Conference for uniform observance.
The Office of the National Chief Imam has announced that the crescent moon marking Ramadan 2026 is expected to be sighted on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.
This corresponds to the 29th day of Sha’ban on the Islamic calendar, following traditional moon sighting practices. If the crescent is observed on the evening of February 18, Thursday, 19 February, will be declared the first day of Ramadan.
Should the moon not be sighted, Sha’ban will complete 30 days, and fasting will begin on Friday, 20 February 2026.
The announcement follows deliberations at the 32nd Annual National Ramadan Conference in Takoradi, Western Region, aimed at ensuring uniformity in Ramadan observance across the country.
As customary, regional representatives will report verified sightings to the appropriate authorities, and the National Chief Imam, or a designated representative, will officially declare the start of the fasting period to the Muslim community.
