KGL’s Resilience and Impact in 2025: A Benchmark for Corporate Ghana

KGL Group sets the standard for corporate excellence in Ghana, combining visionary leadership, digital innovation, and transformative social impact

Story Highlights
  • KGL revolutionized Ghana’s lottery industry through its NLA partnership
  • The KGL Foundation drives major initiatives in health, education, youth, and community development across Ghana
  • Under founder Alex Apau Dadey, KGL has earned international accolades and set a benchmark for ethical, visionary

Many private corporate organisations struggle to survive in their industries, particularly when subjected to “sponsored media attacks” by competitors or other interested parties.

However, the credibility, integrity, reputation, and selfless nature of the KGL Group—especially regarding its corporate social responsibilities—have successfully countered such attacks, allowing the company to remain focused on delivering value to Ghana’s economic ecosystem.

Attorney-General Review of NLA-KGL Deal

The decision by the NLA Board to seek legal advice from the Attorney-General concerning the NLA-KGL licensing agreement is entirely appropriate, as the deal was originally drafted and coordinated by a sub-committee of the NLA Board, chaired by the Attorney-General’s representative.

This review will finally put to rest the unethical media agenda propagated by certain parties against the NLA-KGL deal.

It is important to note that the Attorney-General’s review has nothing to do with the unprofessional media campaign by Fourth Estate and Media Foundation for West Africa against KGL. Legal reviews of agreements are standard practice, particularly when there is a change in government.

The provisional license issued under the previous NLA Board, chaired by Togbe Francis Albert Seth Nyonyo and Director-General Hon. Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, was later reviewed by another Board under the same chairmanship and Director-General Hon. Samuel Kwabena Awuku, and again by a reconstituted Board under Gary Nimako Marfo, in alignment with the Attorney-General’s direction.

All these reviews occurred under the same government, so it is not unusual for the current Board and Attorney-General to conduct a review. As H.E. John Mahama stated, “Review is not the same as cancellation.”

The media entities Fourth Estate and Media Foundation for West Africa have yet to identify a single issue with the deal.

KGL: Setting the Standard in Contemporary Business

In today’s fiercely competitive business landscape, few entities can claim to be unmatched; fewer still have set the benchmark for excellence from inception.

KGL Group, however, is not just one of them—it is the ultimate definition. Its operations are a masterclass in visionary leadership, transformative technology, and profound social impact.

A Digital Revolution in the Lottery Industry: The KGL Difference

Before the NLA-KGL partnership in 2019, multiple attempts to digitize the lottery industry—such as Mobi Game 2 Sure (2008), Mobile 5/90 (2015), 890# (2019), and Alpha Lotto Limited (896#)—had failed.

KGL’s success stems from its pioneering spirit and strategic application of digital technology.

Through its subsidiary, KGL Technology, the Group transformed the traditional lottery industry into a digitally-driven economic powerhouse, delivering substantial revenue growth while modernizing operations.

Unprecedented Revenue Growth (2019–2025)

Official figures show that KGL’s partnership with NLA has more than doubled digital earnings for the state agency in just six years.

KGL contributes to Ghana’s Consolidated Fund through five streams:

  1. Taxes to Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)

  2. Payments to National Lottery Authority (NLA)

  3. Payments to National Communications Authority (NCA)

  4. Payments to Gaming Commission of Ghana

  5. License fees to the Bank of Ghana

Zero Risk to NLA, Maximum Reward

KGL generates substantial revenue for the government at no cost or risk to the NLA. The Authority has never committed public funds to KGL; instead, KGL bears all risks, threats, and liabilities associated with running the 5/90 digital lottery.

This is not just business growth—it is “economic chemistry,” transforming stagnant revenue streams into dynamic sources of national development funding.

KGL’s technological ingenuity earned it the first rank in the ICT sector at the Ghana Club 100 Awards, solidifying its position as a leading African tech company.

Impact Beyond the Balance Sheet

KGL embeds Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Corporate Social Investment (CSI) into its operations, setting a benchmark for ethical and sustainable enterprise.

Through the KGL Foundation, the company leads impactful social initiatives, including:

1. Health Infrastructure

  • Partnering with Eve Medical Foundation to build a multimillion-dollar ultra-modern Mental Health Facility in Kumasi at KNUST.

  • Phase One was commissioned on December 9, 2025, by Vice-President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and Her Royal Highness Lady Julia Osei Tutu II.

  • The facility supports academic activities of the KNUST School of Medical Sciences and School of Dentistry.

2. Education and Health Support

  • Scholarships for orphans and underprivileged children.

  • Free supply of incubators to hospitals nationwide.

3. Youth and Sports Development

  • Multi-year sponsorship of the Black Stars and local youth leagues.

  • Five-year partnership with Ghana Football Association to develop grassroots football and youth mentorship programs.

4. Community Development

  • Support for initiatives such as the Millennium Marathon and other youth empowerment programs.

KGL’s leadership has earned accolades, including the Forbes Best of Africa Corporate Leadership and Innovation Award, recognizing excellence in ethical practices, sustainability, and transparent governance.
