  • Disputes over royal succession, misappropriated gold, and land sales appear linked to the case
  • New Akwamuhene, Nana Akyeampong Duodu, is under suspicion for possible involvement

Police have arrested four individuals in connection with the murder of Nana Owusu Korkor, the destooled Akwamuhene of Tanoso, whose death has shocked the Akwamu Traditional Area.

The suspects—Issifu Addae (aka Akwasi Addae, 48), Stephen Gyamfi (55), Augustine Arhinful (42), and Martha Mansah (65)—were apprehended between Monday, November 10, and Tuesday, November 11, 2025, and are assisting police with ongoing investigations. All have reportedly denied involvement in the killing.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Nana Owusu Korkor had been destooled and replaced by Nana Akyeampong Duodu. The late chief reportedly rejected his removal and engaged in multiple court battles with the royal family.

Further inquiries suggest that the deceased had been accused of misappropriating five gold bars belonging to the royal family and illegally selling family land to a private developer following his destoolment.

Police reports indicate that suspects visited the disputed land, allegedly to halt construction by the developer, seized a block-moulding machine, and threatened to “teach the deceased a lesson.”

Investigators are also examining claims that Nana Akyeampong Duodu may have orchestrated the murder, with reports suggesting he traveled to the United States around the time of the incident to establish an alibi.
