70-Year-Old Visually Impaired Man Dies in Sefwi Adjoafua Fire

A 70-year-old visually impaired man, Kwasi Nkansah, has died following a fire that destroyed his home in Sefwi Adjoafua on Saturday, February 14.

The Ghana National Fire Service reported that the blaze consumed a two-bedroom house with a kitchen and damaged several household items. Firefighters from the Debiso Fire Station responded after receiving a distress call at 2:00 a.m., arriving at the scene by 2:30 a.m. amid heavy rain, poor visibility, and difficult road conditions.

Despite the challenges, the fire was brought under control by 2:36 p.m. and fully extinguished at 3:03 p.m., preventing the flames from spreading to neighboring buildings.

“The fire destroyed a two-bedroom, one-kitchen residence, claiming the life of 70-year-old visually impaired Kwasi Nkansah and damaging several household items,” the GNFS statement said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Fire Service extended condolences to the family and the Sefwi Adjoafua community, urging residents to take precautions to protect vulnerable people. Recommended measures include maintaining clear escape routes, installing smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, and reporting emergencies promptly.
