A cloud of grief has descended on Awutu Papaase following a heartbreaking tragedy that claimed the life of a four-year-old boy and left his elder brother battling for survival after their home collapsed during a heavy downpour.
The deceased, Godsway Nuchuga, was trapped alongside his 35-year-old brother, Seth Nuchuga, when their “Atakpame” structure caved in on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, while they were asleep.
The rains, which pounded the area, reportedly weakened the structure, causing it to suddenly give way and bury the siblings beneath the debris.
Residents rushed to the scene in a desperate attempt to save them, pulling both victims from the wreckage. However, young Godsway was tragically pronounced dead shortly after he was rescued.
His brother, Seth, who sustained critical injuries, was quickly transported to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, where he is currently fighting for his life.
Confirming the incident, Awutu Senya West District NADMO Director, Salifu Adams, expressed deep concern over the development and urged residents to take precautionary measures as the rainy season intensifies.
The incident has left the community shaken, with many calling for urgent attention to the safety of vulnerable structures in the area.
Authorities are yet to conduct a full assessment of buildings at risk, as fears grow that more lives could be endangered if immediate action is not taken.
