A 28-year-old woman has been found dead at her family compound at Peace Town in Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region, with police investigating the incident as a suspected case of sexual assault and murder.
The deceased, identified as Monica Mawuse Bosso, was found beneath a mango tree with a rope around her neck, initially creating the impression that she may have taken her own life.
However, preliminary investigations by the Central East Regional Police Command have raised suspicions that the scene could have been staged to conceal a possible murder.
According to the police, Monica was found in a kneeling position, with the rope tied to a low branch of the mango tree.
Investigators also reportedly found her partially clothed, while her skirt and underwear were allegedly torn and recovered at the scene.
The condition of the body and other observations have led investigators to examine the possibility that Monica may have been sexually assaulted before her death.
Police have reportedly collected samples for forensic analysis to determine whether sexual assault occurred and help identify anyone who may have been involved.
Investigators are also examining a reported GH¢2,000 withdrawal from the deceased’s Mobile Money account around the time of the incident.
The death has shocked residents and the family, particularly as the incident occurred while relatives had gathered for the one-week observance of another family member who died about two weeks earlier in a road accident along the Sagakope-Accra Highway.
A cousin of the deceased, Esther Nyavor, expressed the family’s grief and called for a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding Monica’s death and bring any perpetrators to justice.
Residents and community leaders have also called for a comprehensive investigation and raised concerns about security in the area.
The Assemblyman for the Adam Nana Electoral Area, Frederick Kwabena Adasu, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and condemned the incident.
He pledged to collaborate with the police and other relevant authorities to support efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.
The Central East Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the suspected homicide.
Monica’s body has been deposited at a mortuary pending autopsy and further forensic examination as investigators work to establish the exact cause of death and identify anyone connected to the incident.
