2027 AFCONQ: Black Stars To Play Home Games At Accra Sports Stadium
CAF approves Accra Sports Stadium ahead of Ghana’s 2027 AFCON qualifier against Gambia.

The Black Stars will host their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying home matches at the Accra Sports Stadium after the venue received clearance from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The approval follows renovation works undertaken by the National Sports Authority (NSA) to bring the stadium in line with CAF requirements after it previously lost its certification.
Ghana will host Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 27 in their first home fixture of the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars will begin their Group C campaign away to Côte d’Ivoire on September 24 before returning home three days later to face Gambia.
CAF’s decision ends uncertainty over Ghana’s ability to stage international matches at the Accra Sports Stadium, which has faced concerns over its condition and compliance with international standards in recent years.
The Black Stars had previously been forced to consider alternative venues for some home matches while renovation works were carried out at the stadium.
The venue’s reinstatement on CAF’s approved list could also allow other African nations without approved facilities to use it for their home fixtures.
Niger has already secured permission to use the Accra Sports Stadium for its home matches in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, while Somalia has also approached the NSA to host its home qualifiers in Accra.
The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
For Ghana, the return to the Accra Sports Stadium provides the Black Stars with a familiar venue as they begin their bid to qualify for the tournament after missing the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
