10 Security Recruits Dismissed for Defying Phone Ban – Muntaka

Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak has disclosed that at least 10 recruits have been dismissed from Ghana’s security services training schools for violating a directive banning mobile phones during training.

According to the Minister, the affected recruits were caught secretly keeping their phones after being instructed to surrender the devices upon reporting to their respective training institutions.

He explained that the dismissals were necessary to maintain discipline and ensure strict compliance with the rules governing security services training schools.

Muntaka made the disclosure during an interaction with students of Satafiya Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi, where he spoke about recruitment into Ghana’s security services and the standards expected of prospective recruits.

The Minister expressed concern over attempts by some recruits to circumvent institutional regulations after gaining admission, stressing that joining a security service comes with strict responsibilities and requires a high level of discipline.

He also revealed that more than 500,000 people applied during the latest security services recruitment exercise, but only about 10,000 were selected for training.

He said the figures demonstrated the highly competitive nature of the recruitment process and urged prospective applicants to understand and respect the discipline required once they are selected.

Muntaka said some recruits attempted to conceal their phones despite the ban, including hiding them in their pillows.

He reiterated that recruits are expected to surrender their phones immediately upon arriving at the training schools and warned that violations of institutional rules could have serious consequences.
