A 26-year-old woman has died under mysterious circumstances after she was found unresponsive inside a container shop at the Effiduase Airport community in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The deceased, identified as Freda Agyeiwaa Benson, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Eastern Regional Hospital after she was rushed there for emergency treatment.
Her mother, Leticia Bamfoa, was found unconscious, while a 12-year-old girl, identified only as Juliet, was discovered in critical condition after reportedly vomiting blood. The two remain on admission at the hospital receiving treatment.
According to Freda’s fiancé, Kofi Boakye, the three had been preparing food in front of the container shop on Friday night ahead of a relative’s wedding scheduled for the weekend before retiring to sleep inside the shop.
He explained that concern arose the following morning when repeated attempts to get their attention went unanswered. Neighbours and relatives eventually forced open the door and found Freda and her mother unconscious, while Juliet was still conscious but extremely weak.
The victims were immediately transported to the Eastern Regional Hospital, where doctors confirmed Freda’s death.

Mr. Boakye disclosed that preliminary laboratory tests have ruled out food poisoning as the cause of the incident. He added that medical authorities have indicated that an autopsy and further investigations will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, residents disclosed that the container shop is located on a parcel of land currently at the centre of a legal dispute. They also alleged that the deceased had previously received threats, raising concerns that investigators may need to examine all possible circumstances surrounding the incident.
Despite the incident occurring close to the Effiduase District Police Command, the family has not yet filed an official complaint with the police to trigger a formal investigation.
Authorities are expected to rely on the outcome of the autopsy and other investigations to establish what led to the tragic incident.
