The Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly known as Protozoa, has urged the government to compensate everyone affected by Tuesday’s flooding, arguing that the disaster resulted from failures in public systems rather than natural causes alone.

According to the MP, poor sanitation management played a major role in the flooding, claiming that clogged drains and gutters filled with refuse worsened the impact of the heavy rainfall.

He said the situation reflects shortcomings in the country’s waste management system.

Mr Bekoe also criticised the government’s decision to terminate the contract of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, which previously handled a significant portion of the nation’s sanitation services. He argued that ending the contract without first putting an equally capable replacement in place contributed to the deterioration of sanitation management.

The Suhum MP maintained that the government should accept responsibility for the incident, provide support to flood victims, and take urgent steps to improve waste management and drainage systems to help prevent similar disasters in the future.
