Tension has reportedly gripped Suminakese in the Kwahu East District following the alleged killing of an 85-year-old woman identified as Disco, with the incident triggering a confrontation between some residents and the police.
The deceased was reportedly the landlady of a 32-year-old man, who has since been arrested and is assisting the police with investigations.
The elderly woman was found dead under circumstances that have shocked residents. Police have not yet established the motive for the alleged killing as investigations continue.
News of the incident quickly spread through the community, with some residents reportedly demanding justice for the deceased.
The situation became tense when police arrived at the scene to secure the area and take the suspect into custody. Some agitated residents allegedly confronted the officers, resulting in a clash during which a police pickup vehicle was reportedly vandalised.
The police eventually brought the situation under control and took the suspect into custody for further questioning.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at a morgue. An autopsy is expected to be conducted to help determine the exact cause and circumstances of her death.
Police have appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with investigators as they work to establish what led to the elderly woman’s death.
