A massive fire swept through the Imizamo Yethu settlement in Hout Bay, Cape Town, on Tuesday afternoon, destroying more than 30 formal and informal homes and forcing residents to flee for safety.

Emergency services were quickly dispatched as flames spread rapidly through the densely packed community. Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours, working to contain it and prevent further destruction.

Ward councillor Roberto Quintas confirmed that crews remained on site throughout the day, assessing the damage while continuing firefighting efforts.

Community groups rallied to support both the emergency personnel and displaced residents, providing essential supplies including water, energy drinks, and other necessities to aid firefighters working extended shifts in challenging conditions.

The full extent of the damage is still being evaluated. Authorities have not yet released details on the total number of structures affected or confirmed whether there were any injuries.

Officials continue to assess the situation, and humanitarian support is being mobilized to assist families impacted by the fire.
