Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali in a deal worth up to £100 million, making him one of the club’s most expensive acquisitions.

The 26-year-old Italian international joins Spurs after three seasons with Newcastle United, where he made 79 Premier League appearances and scored five goals.

Tottenham reportedly had an initial bid of around £80 million rejected before agreeing a package worth £92.5 million upfront, with a further £7.5 million in performance-related add-ons.

Speaking after completing the move, Tonali expressed excitement about his new challenge in North London.

“I’m very happy to be here. People said about there being four or five clubs — there was only one,” he said.

“I spoke to the head coach for close to two hours about the club, the fans, the stadium and our football. It was like magic because I knew immediately that I had to sign for Tottenham.”

He added that his previous experiences playing against Spurs influenced his decision, praising the club’s atmosphere and supporters.

“I’ve played against Tottenham a few times and always found a great atmosphere made by great fans. I can’t wait to start the season.”

Tonali becomes one of Tottenham’s marquee signings of the summer, joining fellow high-profile arrival Mateus Fernandes, who also joined the club in a major transfer deal.
