Telecel Ghana has partnered with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to promote the game of golf and encourage young people to take a keen interest in the sport as part of efforts to nurture future talent and broaden participation.

Mr. Samuel Sarpong, Sales and Distribution Director of Telecel Ghana, said the company is committed to supporting initiatives that positively impact society, particularly in the areas of sports, education, and youth development.

He made the remarks after a golfing engagement organised in partnership with the Asantehene at the Royal Golf Club on Friday, June 26.

Mr. Sarpong noted that golf has over the years been perceived by many as a lesser-known sport, a situation that has affected its popularity among young people.

He explained that the partnership with the Asantehene is intended to demystify the sport, create greater public awareness, and encourage more young athletes to embrace golf as a viable sporting discipline capable of producing world-class talent.

According to him, golf promotes discipline, patience, integrity, focus, and strategic thinking—qualities that are essential not only in sports but also in leadership and everyday life.

He said Telecel Ghana believes investing in sports is an investment in the country’s future, adding that empowering young people through sporting activities would contribute significantly to national development.

Mr. Sarpong reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting education and other impactful social interventions across the Ashanti Region and Ghana as a whole.

He added that Telecel Ghana will continue to collaborate with traditional authorities, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to implement programmes that improve lives and create opportunities for the youth.

He expressed optimism that the collaboration with the Asantehene would inspire many young people to take up golf and contribute to the long-term growth of the sport in Ghana.

The golfing engagement attracted golfers, sports enthusiasts, traditional leaders, and corporate partners, all of whom shared a common vision of making golf more accessible and appealing to the younger generation.
