- Nurse granted GH₵100,000 bail after allegedly defrauding colleague of GH₵54,090 in a fake UK travel scheme.
- Accused reportedly jumped police enquiry bail before being rearrested at Tafo on October 27, 2025.
- Case scheduled to return to court on November 27, with the accused pleading not guilty to defrauding by false pretence.
The Asante Akropong District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District has granted a 35-year-old nurse, Esther Asamoah Dufie, bail of GH₵100,000 with two sureties after she was accused of defrauding a colleague in Tafo, Kumasi.
Dufie has been charged with defrauding by false pretence and has entered a plea of not guilty. She is scheduled to return to court on November 27, 2025, before Mr. Emmanuel Wiafe Adu, the presiding judge.
According to the facts presented by Detective Inspector Alexander Agbekpornu, the complainant, Ruth Afia Antwiwaa, worked with Dufie at the same health facility. Antwiwaa lived at Tafo, while the accused resided at Ohwimase.
The court heard that in January 2025, Dufie advertised a UK travel opportunity on her WhatsApp status. After the complainant showed interest, the accused claimed the offer was arranged through her brother, a supposed UK-based military officer.
The complainant later involved her friend’s husband, who also wanted to travel. Together, they paid GH₵54,090 into a CalBank account supplied by Dufie.
The prosecution said the accused assured them that a dependant from the UK would arrive in April 2025 to start visa processing, but this never happened. Attempts by the complainant to retrieve the money also failed.
The matter was eventually reported to the Abuakwa Police on September 16, 2025, leading to Dufie’s arrest. In her caution statement, she admitted receiving the money and requested time to refund it by October 10, 2025. She was granted police enquiry bail but later absconded.
She was rearrested at Tafo on October 27. After investigations were completed, she was charged and brought before the court.
