Chairman Wontumi Picked Up by EOCO After CID Interrogation

Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, widely known as “Chairman Wontumi” and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) shortly after leaving the CID headquarters in Accra.

He had reported to the CID as part of ongoing investigations into alleged illegal mining activities, including unauthorized operations in forest reserves. His appearance was in compliance with his bail conditions following earlier questioning.

Despite cooperating with the CID, EOCO officers apprehended him on Tuesday, May 27, as he exited the premises.

The specific reason for EOCO’s intervention has not yet been disclosed, and the agency is yet to release an official statement.
