At least 11 people have been killed in three separate shooting incidents in Cape Town, South Africa, sparking renewed concerns over violence in several townships.
The shootings occurred in Khayelitsha, Langa and Gugulethu, leaving local communities shocked and grieving.
In Khayelitsha’s Lingelethu West area, gunmen opened fire on Sunday, killing three men aged 25, 31 and 35.
In Langa, four men and one woman were killed in a separate shooting along Winnie Mandela Street.
Another attack in Gugulethu’s Barcelona settlement claimed the lives of two men and one woman, while two others sustained critical injuries.
Police have deployed additional personnel to the affected communities to prevent further violence and secure other high-risk areas.
Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Sizakhele Dyantyi said investigators had not yet established a clear motive for the attacks.
He announced a reward of 100,000 South African rand for information that could assist police in identifying and arresting those responsible.
Authorities say gang violence and the proliferation of illegal firearms remain major security challenges in South Africa’s Western Cape province.
