Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital as a precaution after feeling unwell at Old Trafford shortly before Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday.

Sources indicated that the situation was not considered an emergency, but medical staff opted to take the 84-year-old former manager to hospital for assessment.

Ferguson, who led Manchester United for 27 years during one of the most successful periods in the club’s history, regularly attends matches from the directors’ box.

There has been no official update on his condition since he was admitted.

The legendary coach, who suffered a serious brain haemorrhage in 2018, later spoke publicly about his recovery.

Earlier on Sunday, he had been seen at the stadium interacting with guests just hours before kick-off. A photo shared on social media by cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra showed the pair together ahead of the match.

Ferguson was transported by ambulance from the tunnel area at Old Trafford, with club officials expressing confidence that he will recover quickly and be able to return home soon.
