Sedina Tamakloe Still in Prison Despite Acquittal – Kwakye Ofosu
Government Communications Minister says former MASLOC CEO remains in lawful custody as Attorney-General seeks to overturn the Court of Appeal ruling.

Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has stated that former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, remains in prison despite the Court of Appeal’s decision to acquit and discharge her.
Speaking in an interview the Abura Asebu Kwamankese MP dismissed claims that the former MASLOC boss had been released after returning to Ghana, insisting she has remained in lawful custody throughout the legal process.
“From the day Sedina arrived in Ghana until the Court of Appeal delivered its ruling, she has remained in prison custody. Claims that she was at home and not under the custody of the Ghana Prisons Service are completely false,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu said.
He further maintained that Madam Tamakloe-Attionu has not been released, despite the appellate court’s decision in her favour.
“I can tell you Sedina has not been released; she is still in custody,” he stressed.
His comments come after Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie granted permission for the Court of Appeal to sit during the legal vacation to hear an application filed by the Attorney-General seeking a stay of execution of the acquittal.
The application is expected to be heard on August 16, 2026.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to stage a protest on Thursday, August 6, describing the Court of Appeal’s decision as flawed.
The opposition party has also accused the government of using state institutions to target political opponents while allegedly protecting its allies.
Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu’s earlier 10-year prison sentence for causing financial loss to the state was overturned after the Court of Appeal ruled that prosecutors failed to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
The case centred on allegations that she unlawfully redirected a GH¢500,000 loan intended for Obaatanpa Microfinance after the institution declined the facility because of its interest rate.
Following the acquittal, the Attorney-General filed an application at the Supreme Court seeking a stay of execution pending the hearing of the State’s appeal.
According to the Attorney-General, the application is intended to prevent Madam Tamakloe-Attionu from leaving the country before the Supreme Court determines the appeal.
