Prince William joined Aston Villa’s celebrations in Istanbul after the club secured a historic 3-0 victory over Freiburg to win the Europa League title — their first major trophy in 30 years.
The Prince of Wales, a passionate Villa supporter, was visibly emotional throughout the final at Besiktas Park as Aston Villa lifted their first European trophy since 1982.
Villa captain John McGinn revealed that Prince William visited the team in the dressing room before kick-off, while defender Matty Cash said the royal later celebrated with the squad over drinks.
“He was in there having a beer with us,” Cash said after the match. “He’s absolutely delighted. He’s a huge supporter who is always around the club, whether at Villa Park or the training ground. Nights like this mean a lot to him.”
Prince William also shared his excitement on social media, congratulating the players, staff and fans for ending the club’s long wait for European silverware.
He also praised midfielder Boubacar Kamara, who missed the final through injury, describing him as an important figure in the team’s success this season.
An estimated 20,000 Aston Villa fans travelled to Istanbul — nicknamed “Astonbul” by supporters during the celebrations — to witness the memorable triumph.
