The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the National Signals Bureau (NSB), has arrested two individuals over separate videos containing allegedly inciteful and offensive comments concerning Prophet Mohammed.
The first suspect, 35-year-old Imam Masud Abdullah, was arrested over a video in which he allegedly advocated violence against individuals who speak ill of Prophet Mohammed.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations indicate that Abdullah made the remarks while delivering a sermon at a mosque in Ntensere in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.
In a related case, the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team arrested Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, also known as Apostle Daniel JY Adjei, over another video in which he was allegedly seen making derogatory and offensive comments about Prophet Mohammed.
The Police said investigations into both cases are ongoing and the suspects will be taken through the due process of the law.
The arrests come as the Police caution the public against using religious or constitutional freedoms as a basis for promoting violence or encouraging attacks against others.
The Service further reminded religious leaders, preachers, community leaders and social media commentators that although freedom of religion and expression is protected by law, such freedoms do not extend to statements that incite violence or encourage people to harm others.
The Police warned that persons found engaging in such conduct will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
