One person has died and several others are in critical condition following a head-on collision between two commercial vehicles at Ejisu.

The crash involved a Ford (AW 3264-21) traveling from Kumasi towards Ejisu and a Toyota Hiace (AS 3552-20) heading toward Kumasi. Eyewitnesses reported that the Hiace, allegedly speeding, lost control and collided with the Ford, leaving occupants of both vehicles seriously injured.

Among the victims were two senior high school students traveling to school and a man believed to be in his 70s, who was pronounced dead upon arrival at Living Waters Hospital.

Speaking on the condition of the victims, Dr. Gabriel Sekyi Kwofie, Medical Director of the hospital, said the facility received 31 casualties, with 11 currently undergoing surgery. Two patients are suspected of having head injuries, while others sustained multiple fractures and lacerations.

One student, a Form Three pupil of Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School, is in stable condition after minor injuries. The other, a nursing student from Ntotroso Nursing Training College, was on her way to Ejisu Government Hospital for clinical training.

Dr. Kwofie also noted that many victims lack National Health Insurance or the financial means to cover treatment costs, though some patients with minor injuries were treated and discharged free of charge. The family of the deceased elderly man has not yet been identified as investigations into the accident continue.

Eyewitness Michael Asante described the scene: “Many of the passengers were injured, some with broken hands and legs, and all the seats in the car were damaged.”

Authorities are continuing investigations into the cause of the crash.
