Fake Nurse Snatches Newborn at Tamale Hospital; Police Detain Two Nurses and Security Guard

Tamale – The Northern Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the suspected abduction of a newborn baby at One Heart Hospital in Lamashegu, a suburb of Tamale, leading to the arrest of two nurses and a security guard for questioning.
According to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), the case was reported on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m.
Initial findings suggest that an unidentified woman, masquerading as a nurse, gained access to the hospital’s labour ward and took away a newborn baby boy, claiming she was going to administer an injection.
In connection with the incident, police have picked up Abubakari Fatima Bintu and Grace Asiedu Mensah, both nurses who were on duty at the time, along with Abukari Iddi, the security guard on duty, to assist with ongoing investigations.
The police say intelligence-led operations are underway to locate the missing baby and apprehend all individuals linked to the alleged crime.
The Northern Regional Police Command has assured the public of its determination to unravel the case and safely reunite the baby with the family.
