The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to stage a protest march to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Monday, July 13, demanding answers over the arrest of its communications member, Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

The party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, said the demonstration is intended to seek clarity on the circumstances surrounding the arrest, which the NPP believes is an attempt to intimidate members of the opposition.

Speaking in an interview Nana Boakye claimed that Miracles Aboagye was arrested without receiving any prior invitation or notification from EOCO regarding an investigation or any alleged offence.

He accused state institutions of increasingly being used to target political opponents, warning that such actions pose a threat to Ghana’s democratic credentials.

“Miracles has not received any invitation from EOCO. He has not been informed of any wrongdoing. He has not been told that he is under any form of investigation,” he said.

Nana Boakye maintained that the NPP supports accountability and would cooperate with any lawful investigation involving its members, but insisted that due process and the rule of law must be respected.

His remarks come after the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, alleged in a Facebook post that Dennis Miracles Aboagye was arrested by EOCO officers with the assistance of Immigration officials at the Kotoka International Airport.

According to Justin Kodua, Miracles’ legal team has been denied access to him, his whereabouts remain unknown, and no formal charges have been communicated.

As of the time of publication, EOCO had not publicly commented on the arrest or responded to the allegations made by the NPP.
