NPP Lawyer Reports EOCO Officer to Police Over Alleged Assault

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Legal Team, Enoch Afoakwa, has formally reported an alleged assault by an Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) officer to the police.
The complaint follows a confrontation that occurred on Wednesday, September 23, during an attempted arrest of Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
According to Mr Afoakwa, EOCO officials attempted to arrest the legislator shortly after he had appeared at the High Court as legal counsel for Salomey Awitty Baffoe.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Afoakwa said he lodged a formal complaint with the police after he was allegedly assaulted during the confrontation.
He said the police subsequently issued him with a medical form, which he presented at a hospital for examination and treatment.
Mr Afoakwa alleged that a female EOCO officer punched him in the face during the incident.
He said he intends to submit the medical documents and other relevant information to the police for further action.
The alleged assault occurred amid a confrontation between EOCO officials and individuals who were resisting the attempted arrest of Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
The MP had appeared in court as legal counsel for Salomey Awitty Baffoe before EOCO officials sought to take him into custody.
The matter has since drawn public attention to the conduct of law enforcement officers and procedures surrounding arrests involving lawyers appearing in court in their professional capacity.
