Newcastle United have struck an agreement with AS Monaco to sign promising French midfielder Aladji Bamba in a deal worth up to £34 million.
The 20-year-old is scheduled to arrive on Tyneside on Thursday to undergo a medical and finalize a long-term contract with the Magpies.
Bamba, who made his senior debut for Monaco in August 2025, has rapidly emerged as one of Ligue 1’s standout defensive prospects. Among midfielders with at least 500 minutes played last season, Bamba ranked in the top five for average duels won (9.1 per game), tackles (3.6), successful take-ons (1.6), and aerial duels won (1.9).
The move comes as Newcastle rebuild their midfield options following the departure of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur last month. Having already secured 18-year-old Sean Steur from Ajax, Eddie Howe’s side pivoted to Bamba after missing out on Freiburg’s Johan Manzambi, who opted for Aston Villa.
