Nana Akomea: I Expected to Be First or Second, Not Third Vice Chair
Nana Akomea says he was disappointed after finishing third but acknowledges the race was extremely close.

- Nana Akomea expected first or second
- He finished third in a tight race
- He praises Kojo Bamba’s campaign strategy
Newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) Third Vice Chairman, Nana Akomea, has admitted that he was disappointed with his position in the party’s national executive elections, saying he expected to finish either first or second.
Nana Akomea placed third in the closely contested race but said he had anticipated a difficult contest among the leading candidates.
“I expected to be first or second, not third,” he said.
Speaking about the outcome, Nana Akomea said although the result was disappointing, the narrow margins between the leading candidates showed how competitive the election was.
“Yes, it disappointed me a little, but I knew it was going to be tough.”
He noted that the top four candidates were separated by relatively small margins, describing the contest as “very close” and “very tight.”
Nana Akomea also credited fellow candidate Kojo Bamba’s campaign strategy for his strong performance, describing his message as “clever” and different from that of the other leading contenders.
According to him, while candidates including Nana B, Mustapha Hamid and Ahiagbah largely highlighted their experience and long service to the NPP, Kojo Bamba focused on protecting delegates and the integrity of the electoral process.
Nana Akomea said Bamba’s message resonated with some delegates despite opinion polls giving him relatively low support ahead of the election.
He added that he paid little attention to the polls because candidates had the opportunity to interact directly with delegates and assess their reactions to their campaign messages.
Nana Akomea was elected Third Vice Chairman of the NPP at the party’s National Delegates Congress and National Officers’ Elections held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3, 2026.
