Police in the Volta Region have arrested a man in connection with a violent shooting incident at Deti, a suburb of Akatsi, which left two people injured and caused significant property damage.

The Ghana Police Service, in a statement, said the incident occurred on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, and is being investigated as attempted murder and unlawful damage.

According to preliminary findings, the confrontation stemmed from a dispute that escalated when a group of young men allegedly stormed the residence of the suspect, identified as Mensah Awagah, and began demolishing his fence wall.

The individuals involved reportedly included the two victims, James Kpanda, 44, and Jonathan Kpanda, 30, who sustained gunshot wounds to the knee and eye respectively during the incident.

Investigators say the suspect, angered by the attack on his property, went into his room, retrieved a firearm, and opened fire on the group.

A Mercedes-Benz vehicle, two motorbikes, and part of the fence wall were damaged in the process.

The injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment as police continue their investigations into attempted murder and destruction of property.
