President John Dramani Mahama has assured the families of the eight victims of the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash that the government and the people of Ghana remain united with them as they observe the first anniversary of this tragic event.
The President made this pledge on Thursday, August 6, during a national inter-faith memorial service honoring those who lost their lives in the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash while on duty.
In his speech, Mahama praised the victims as dedicated public servants who devoted their lives to serving Ghana. He emphasized that their sacrifice would always be remembered in the nation’s history.
He acknowledged that, a year after the tragedy, the pain of loss still lingers deeply for the families and loved ones left behind.
“To the bereaved families, I once again extend the deepest condolences on behalf of the government and the people of Ghana. I know no words can undo your pain, no anniversary can fill that void at your table, and no ceremony can replace the voices you long to hear.
“You have faced your grief with remarkable strength and dignity, reminding us all that love endures beyond death—through memories, faith, and how we choose to live our lives.”
He assured them that the nation continues to mourn with them, and their loved ones are not forgotten—they belong to all of Ghana, and the memory of their sacrifice remains alive.
The crash occurred on August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, when a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter en route from Accra to the region crashed during an official assignment.
The tragedy claimed the lives of several prominent individuals, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed; former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Samuel Sarpong; former NDC parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; and three Ghana Armed Forces personnel—Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
