Mahama Applauds Ofankor-Nsawam Road Progress, Pushes for Early Completion
President Encourages Contractor to Complete Road Ahead of Schedule

- President Mahama praised the accelerated progress
- Funding gaps that previously stalled work have been addressed
- The reconstruction aims to ease chronic congestion
President John Dramani Mahama has commended the rapid progress on the Ofankor-Nsawam Road and urged the contractor to accelerate work to complete the project months ahead of schedule.
Speaking during a site visit on Wednesday, December 3 — exactly 90 days after his previous inspection — the President noted the poor state of the road during his last visit, when construction had stalled due to delayed payments and postponed demolitions.
“When we came, the road was moving at a snail’s pace. One major issue was non-payment for work done over a long period, so I instructed the Roads and Finance Ministers to release funds. More than $70 million has now been paid to the contractor,” he explained.
Mahama added that while the initial completion date was projected for July 2026, current progress indicates the road could be finished as early as April. He encouraged the contractor and workers to maintain the momentum.
“I am very impressed with the progress. I urge the team to continue pushing hard so we can finish this road and make it usable for the public,” he said.
The Ofankor-Nsawam Road, whose reconstruction began in July 2022, has long been a source of frustration for commuters due to heavy traffic and repeated delays caused by funding gaps. The ongoing works are part of broader efforts to reduce congestion along one of Accra’s busiest corridors.
