Story Highlights
  • Liverpool sign Victor Munoz on a six-year deal.
  • Reds offer £86m for Yan Diomande.
  • RB Leipzig reluctant to sell the teenager.

Liverpool have secured the signing of Spanish winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna after activating his €40 million (£34.5 million) release clause, while also making a major move for RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande.

The Premier League club confirmed the arrival of the 22-year-old Munoz, who is currently part of Spain’s World Cup squad. Liverpool officials travelled to the United States to conduct the player’s medical before finalising the transfer.

Munoz is expected to sign a six-year contract at Anfield, becoming Liverpool’s first signing since Andoni Iraola was appointed head coach earlier this month.

The versatile winger, who can operate on either flank, impressed last season with seven goals and five assists in 36 appearances for Osasuna. Liverpool beat competition from Newcastle United, Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen to secure his signature.

Meanwhile, the Reds have submitted a package worth around €100 million (£86 million) to sign 19-year-old Ivory Coast international Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig. However, the Bundesliga club is understood to value the player more highly and is reluctant to sanction a sale this summer.

Diomande, who scored 12 goals and provided eight assists last season, is also attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain. Leipzig reportedly believe his value could rise significantly if he performs well at the ongoing World Cup.

Liverpool remain optimistic about their chances of landing the highly rated teenager but may need to increase their offer to persuade Leipzig to negotiate.

Munoz’s arrival is seen as part of Liverpool’s efforts to strengthen their attacking options following Mohamed Salah’s departure. The club believes his pace, versatility and ability to create chances will add depth to the squad.

The Merseyside club is also expected to remain active in the transfer market, with Diomande among several attacking targets being considered ahead of the new season.

Elsewhere, Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa is attracting interest from clubs in Italy as he seeks more regular playing time after a limited role last season.
