President John Dramani Mahama will officially swear in Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Ghana’s Chief Justice today, Monday, November 17, 2025, following Parliament’s recent approval of his nomination.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, nominated by President Mahama on September 23, 2025, was praised for his “wealth of experience and long service on the Bench,” having served at the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court.

He has been Acting Chief Justice since April 22, 2025, after the suspension and subsequent dismissal of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

During his appearance before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on November 10, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie pledged transparent, bipartisan leadership and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening judicial independence and enhancing access to justice.

Parliament confirmed his appointment on November 13, with 163 votes in favor and 69 against, clearing the way for today’s swearing-in ceremony.
