John Boadu Warns NPP Against Underestimating NDC’s 15-Seat Ashanti Target

New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful John Boadu has warned the party not to underestimate what he describes as the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s strategic efforts to increase its parliamentary representation in the Ashanti Region.
According to Mr Boadu, the NDC has set a target of winning 15 parliamentary seats in the region and has been working towards achieving that objective in selected constituencies for some time.
Speaking in an interview with Kwame Tanko on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show on Lawson TV/Radio, John Boadu said the NPP must take the NDC’s strategy seriously, particularly because the governing party has access to state influence and has been working in some constituencies over an extended period.
He described the NDC’s approach as “forward thinking,” arguing that the party has identified constituencies where it believes it can make significant gains.
“Their target is 15 seats in the Ashanti Region. It is forward thinking and it makes sense. There are constituencies they have worked on for a long time, and if they don’t put a break on it, considering they are in government and the influence they have, they can achieve it,” he said.
Mr Boadu also pointed to demographic changes and movements of people as factors the NPP should consider in assessing the political landscape in the region.
He said the NDC has been able to increase its electoral support in the Ashanti Region and urged the NPP not to dismiss the party’s strategy.
“The NDC is getting its highest votes in the Ashanti Region,” he stated.
John Boadu further accused the NDC of taking credit for projects initiated under the previous NPP administration, claiming that the party has struggled to replicate some of the projects.
However, he maintained that the NPP’s focus should be on rebuilding its structures and responding strategically to the changing political dynamics in the region.
He said the NPP’s performance in the 2024 election should serve as a warning and that the party must carefully study its post-election assessments.
“The NPP’s back was bare in the 2024 election based on the report I have,” he said.
Despite the concerns, Mr Boadu expressed confidence in the NPP’s ability to rebuild its support in the region.
He said if elected National Chairman and given the opportunity to work with the party, he believes the NPP could secure 44 parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region.
“I can assure you that with me around, if nothing at all, the NPP will get 44 seats in the Ashanti Region,” he stated.
The Electoral Commission’s official results show that the Ashanti Region has 47 parliamentary constituencies, making the figures cited by Mr Boadu a significant part of the party’s discussion about its future performance in the region.
