JFK Heads to Ashanti for Final Push Ahead of NPP General Secretary Election

Incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua (JFK), is set to begin a comprehensive tour of all 47 constituencies in the Ashanti Region as he winds down his nationwide campaign ahead of the party’s national elections.
The tour, which begins on Monday, is aimed at engaging delegates directly and presenting JFK’s vision for a second term as the party’s Chief Scribe.
As a native of the Ashanti Region, Kodua’s campaign tour is expected to take on the character of a homecoming, with his supporters hopeful that the region will deliver strong backing for his bid.
He is scheduled to begin the tour in the peripheral constituencies, including Offinso North, Offinso South, Ejura-Sekyedumase, Nsuta-Kwamang-Beposo and Mampong, before moving into the central parts of the region.
An aide to the General Secretary said the tour is expected to be completed within two weeks.
According to the aide, the campaign strategy is designed to enable JFK to complete his nationwide tour of all 16 regions by September 20, leaving the remaining period before the October 3 national elections for mop-up engagements.
Growing Campaign Momentum
Campaign materials bearing Kodua’s name and image—including posters, portraits and flyers—have become increasingly visible at key locations across the Ashanti Region.
The branding has been spotted in areas ranging from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which is scheduled to host the national delegates conference.
Local political observers say the incumbent remains one of the most visible candidates in the race for the NPP’s national executive positions.
His supporters attribute his appeal among delegates to what they describe as an accessible leadership style, strong interpersonal relationships and his record as General Secretary.
In a show of grassroots support, delegates from the Asokwa Constituency have reportedly arranged to join Kodua’s campaign convoy from Offinso and accompany him throughout the Ashanti tour until the team reaches the Greater Kumasi area.
“Lawyer Kodua is one of our own, and it is only fitting that we stand by him and support his campaign across the entire Ashanti Region,” said Felix Appiah, the NPP Constituency Secretary for Asokwa.
Claims of Strong Electoral Position
A spot check across several constituencies in the Ashanti Region suggests that the incumbent enjoys significant support among delegates, according to the report.
The projection is notable because two other candidates contesting the General Secretary position—Eugene Boakye Antwi and Dr Charles Dwamena—also come from the Ashanti Region.
A pollster cited in the report projected that Kodua could perform strongly even in Subin and Kwadaso, the home constituencies of Eugene Boakye Antwi and Dr Charles Dwamena respectively.
The pollster further estimated that JFK could secure between 60% and 75% of the total votes nationwide on election day.
However, the projections remain campaign and polling assessments and will ultimately be tested by the delegates’ votes on October 3.
