The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has urged Ghanaians to prioritise their safety during robbery attacks by avoiding resistance and complying with armed criminals.

He made the remarks on Tuesday, May 19, when the Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana presented him with a plaque and citation in recognition of his contributions to crime fighting.

According to him, victims of robbery incidents should cooperate fully with attackers and surrender demanded items in order to protect their lives.

“All that we are saying is that to Ghanaians in general, if you are attacked by any criminal, whatever they want from you, just give it out to them,” he said.

He stressed that no one should attempt to struggle with armed criminals.

“If it is your mobile phone he wants, let him take it. If it is your laptop he wants, let him take it. If it is your money he wants, your life is more precious than these petty-petty items,” he added.

He further advised that even in cases involving vehicles or other valuables, victims should prioritise survival over property.

“If you are driving your car and the criminal says he wants it, give it out to him,” he stated.

The IGP also assured the public that security agencies are committed to tracking and arresting perpetrators after incidents occur.

He emphasized that criminals may escape temporarily but will eventually face the law.

Mr. Yohuno reiterated that the Ghana Police Service remains focused on protecting lives and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice, describing public safety as its highest priority.
