Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has revealed that the government has completed the recruitment of 13,500 nurses and midwives, a significant boost aimed at strengthening Ghana’s health sector.

He assured that all newly recruited health workers who have faced delays in salary processing will receive their payments before the end of the month.

Addressing participants at the 19th Biennial Conference of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) in Tamale on Wednesday, November 19, the Minister emphasized that the recruitment drive is central to enhancing frontline healthcare under the Free Primary Healthcare and Mahama Cares initiatives.

“In 2025, the Mahama administration successfully finalized the recruitment process initiated by the former government, ensuring that 13,500 nurses and midwives have now been placed on the government payroll,” he noted.

Mr. Akandoh added that the government is reviewing the negotiated Conditions of Service for health workers for possible inclusion in the 2026 national budget, calling it a clear commitment to fairness, continuity, and improved welfare.

He further urged stronger collaboration among the Ministry of Health, labour unions, and the GRNMA to address issues concerning deployment, specialist training, and the long-term stability of the health workforce.
