GHC30.8bn Allocated for 2026 Big Push Road Projects — President Mahama
President Mahama promises accelerated infrastructure development and immediate contractor payments as the 2026 budget doubles funding for the Big Push road initiative.

- GHC30.8bn allocated in 2026 budget for Big Push road construction, over double 2025’s funding
- Focus on quality and accountability, with the President warning against poor construction and abandoned projects.
- Communities urged to participate, protect materials, and support engineers to ensure project success
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, has allocated GHC30.8 billion in the 2026 budget for the government’s Big Push road construction initiative — more than double this year’s GHC13.8 billion allocation.
The funding forms part of the government’s broader strategy to accelerate infrastructure development, enhance regional connectivity, and position Ghana as a leading trade hub in West Africa.
The new budget will support the completion of ongoing projects and the initiation of new road networks, with particular focus on northern transport corridors.
Speaking at the Wa Big Push Project sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, President Mahama described the initiative as a cornerstone of Ghana’s long-term national development agenda.
He emphasised the need for quality workmanship, accountability, and active community involvement to ensure that the initiative delivers tangible benefits.
“To our contractors and engineers, let me be clear: the era of poor construction, inflated claims, and abandoned projects is over. Ghana deserves better. Roads must be delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality — ensuring value for every cedi spent,” President Mahama stated.
He also assured that financial resources would not hinder project execution. “This year, the Finance Minister allocated 13.8 billion cedis to the Big Push, and next year, 30.8 billion cedis has been reserved. Payment will not be a problem. Once a road is completed to specification and certified, contractors will receive immediate payment,” he added.
The President further called on local communities to take ownership of the projects, urging residents to support the work, protect materials, and cooperate with engineers to ensure the success of the initiative.
