GES Releases 2026/2027 Academic Calendar for SHS and SHTS
GES announces key reopening, vacation and closing dates for Form 1, 2 and 3 students for the 2026/2027 academic year.
- Sept. 18, 2026: SHS students begin the new academic year
- July 30, 2027: Form 1 and 2 academic year ends.
- June 18, 2027: Form 3 students complete their academic year.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the official academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The calendar, issued by the GES Public Relations Unit on June 1, 2026, covers schools operating under the single-track system as well as transitional schools.
Under the schedule, Form One and Form Two students in single-track schools will begin the first semester on September 18, 2026, and remain in school until January 29, 2027.
They will then break for vacation from January 30 to March 29, 2027, before returning for the second semester on March 30, 2027.
The second semester will run until July 30, 2027, marking the end of the academic year for Form One and Form Two students. Their vacation will begin on July 31, 2027.
For Form Three students, the first semester will run from September 18 to December 18, 2026. They will proceed on vacation from December 19, 2026, to January 31, 2027, and return to school on February 1, 2027, for the second semester.
Form Three students will remain in school until June 18, 2027, which will mark the end of their academic year.
The GES said the calendar is intended to provide parents, guardians, students and the general public with clear timelines for the 2026/2027 academic year.
