“Fibre Broadband Is No Longer a Luxury”: MTN Ghana Outlines Digital Strategy at July Bright Conversations

At the July 2026 edition of its monthly Bright Conversations series held at MTN House in Accra, telecommunications giant MTN Ghana emphasized the imperative for households and businesses to transition to fixed fibre broadband to drive economic productivity.
Speaking to industry stakeholders, Richard Acheampong, Chief Home Officer at MTN Ghana, declared that high-speed home internet has transitioned from a premium convenience to an indispensable digital utility.
“Our ambition goes beyond simply laying fibre optic cables. We are building the critical digital infrastructure required to enable every Ghanaian household and business to participate fully in the modern digital economy,” Mr. Acheampong stated.
Redefining the Modern Home
The session addressed how post-pandemic consumer behaviors have permanently altered bandwidth consumption patterns. Homes across Ghana are increasingly serving as co-working hubs, virtual classrooms, e-commerce storefronts, and entertainment centers—requiring sustained, multi-device internet capacity.
During the discussion, MTN experts clarified the distinct roles of mobile and fixed connectivity technologies:

Fixed Fibre Broadband: Provides stable, uninterrupted high-capacity bandwidth suitable for bandwidth-heavy, multi-user household applications (e.g., 4K streaming, simultaneous video calls, cloud computing).

Infrastructure Investment and Protection
Highlighting MTN Group’s broader commitment to nation-building, the discussions touched upon ongoing capital investments into nationwide fibre deployment and capacity upgrades.
However, network stability remains challenged by frequent fibre cuts resulting from road construction and utility works. MTN Ghana reiterated its call for telecommunications infrastructure to be formally classified as Critical National Infrastructure to safeguard broadband uptime for consumers and emergency services alike.
Through the Bright Conversations platform, MTN Ghana plans to continue engaging the public, clearing up technical misconceptions, and accelerating fixed broadband adoption across the country.
