EC Postpones Nationwide District Assembly and Unit Committee By-Elections
EC indefinitely suspends by-elections across over 1,500 polling stations nationwide, citing further updates to come

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the indefinite postponement of all District Assembly and Unit Committee by-elections across the country.
In a notice dated November 3, 2025, the Commission informed the public that the previously scheduled by-elections, initially set for Tuesday, November 11, 2025, have been put on hold. New dates will be communicated in due course.
The announcement, signed by Mr. Fred Tetteh, Deputy Director of the EC’s Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation Department, did not specify the reason for the delay but assured the public that updates will be provided once arrangements are finalised.
The by-elections were intended to fill vacancies created by resignations or deaths of Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members, as stipulated under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), amended by Act 940.
The elections were to cover over 1,500 polling stations across multiple regions, including Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta, Central, Eastern, Bono, Ahafo, Western, and Western North, among others. Key districts affected include:

Greater Accra: Ablekuma Central, Weija-Gbawe, La-Nkwantanang, Adenta

Central Region: Cape Coast, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem, Mfantseman

Western Region: Jomoro, Ellembelle, Nzema East, Sekondi-Takoradi

Eastern Region: Asuogyaman, Yilo Krobo, Suhum, New Juaben

Ashanti Region: Adansi South, Obuasi Municipal, Bosomtwe, Offinso North

Volta Region: Keta, Ketu South, Ho, Afadjato South
