COKA Urges Ashanti NPP Delegates to Back Competent Regional Candidatesat at Thanksgiving Service

The newly elected leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, led by Regional Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), has called for unity among delegates ahead of the party’s upcoming national executive elections.
The regional leadership made the call on Sunday during a thanksgiving service held at Gracefields Chapel in Nhyiaeso, following the successful regional executive elections.
The event brought together senior party figures, constituency executives, current national officers, aspirants contesting the national executive elections scheduled for October 3, and scores of party supporters.
The thanksgiving service was organised to express gratitude for what the organisers described as a peaceful electoral process, strengthen unity within the regional party structure and outline priorities for the new administration.
COKA Pushes “Ashanti Agenda”
Addressing the congregation, Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah said the party had reason to be grateful following what he described as a peaceful and transparent regional election.
He urged the newly elected executives to justify the confidence reposed in them by party members through dedicated and inclusive service.
Turning his attention to the upcoming national elections, COKA encouraged delegates in the Ashanti Region to present a united front by supporting competent candidates from the region.
“Our election victory must motivate us to unite behind an ‘Ashanti Agenda.’ By supporting aspirants from our region who are seeking national leadership positions, we demonstrate our collective strength and solid influence within the party,” he said.
Call to Return to NPP Values
COKA also called for a renewed commitment to the founding principles of the NPP, including fairness, discipline, integrity and respect for the party’s constitution.
He acknowledged that internal disagreements and factionalism had at times resulted in the alienation of some dedicated party members.
To address the challenge, he pledged that his administration would prioritise inclusivity, reconciliation and unity as part of efforts to strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
JFK Commends Regional Executives
NPP General Secretary Lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua (JFK) commended the Ashanti Regional executives for beginning their tenure with an emphasis on faith and unity.
He encouraged party officers at all levels—from polling station executives to the national leadership—to embrace collaboration as the NPP develops its strategy for the 2028 elections.
Clergy Calls for Humility
The officiating clergy, in his sermon, commended the regional leadership for organising the thanksgiving service and reminded the executives that effective leadership requires resilience, integrity and humility.
He urged the leaders to serve with a shared vision and remain focused on achieving meaningful results for the party.
Prayer for Wontumi
The service also included a moment of solidarity for the party’s former Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, who is currently incarcerated.
Chairman COKA called for a minute’s silence and prayer for the former regional chairman, which was observed by the party members gathered at the service.
