At least 27 people have been killed and more than 20 others wounded in two separate shootings in South Africa, with police hunting multiple suspects.
The attacks occurred hours apart at locations near Johannesburg and Cape Town, leaving communities shocked and triggering major police investigations.
17 Killed in Wedela Tavern Shooting
The first shooting happened at about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday at a tavern in Wedela, southwest of Johannesburg.
Police said at least 17 people were killed and 15 others wounded after gunmen opened fire on people gathered outside the tavern before entering the venue and continuing the attack.
Police said as many as eight suspects, armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols, were involved.
The attackers reportedly searched some customers and took their mobile phones before fleeing in two vehicles. Two other vehicles were also set on fire.
No arrests had been announced, while the motive remained unknown.
Police opened 17 murder cases, 15 attempted murder cases and two cases related to property damage.
10 Killed in Lwandle Shooting
Hours later, another shooting was reported in Lwandle near Cape Town.
Police said at least 10 people were killed and 11 others wounded after gunmen opened fire at a store shortly after midnight on Sunday.
Multiple suspects were being sought, with the motive for the attack yet to be established.
The two shootings have left at least 27 people dead and more than 20 wounded.
The incidents come just days after another deadly shooting near Durban in which 11 people were killed at a house party.
Investigations into the latest attacks are ongoing.
