Alan Kyerematen: Mahama Has Done Well on Economy, Sustainability Matters
The United Party leader says the government’s progress in stabilising the macroeconomy must be sustained to demonstrate lasting economic success.

United Party leader Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen has acknowledged progress made by President John Dramani Mahama’s government in stabilising Ghana’s economy, but says sustaining the gains will be the key test.
Speaking in an interview on Monday, September 21, Mr Kyerematen said the government had generally performed well, particularly in stabilising the macroeconomy.
He, however, cautioned that improvements in economic indicators should not be considered the final measure of success.
“Generally, they have done well, particularly stabilising the macroeconomy. The question we need to ask is whether they can sustain the progress that has been made,” he said.
According to Mr Kyerematen, short-term improvements in the macroeconomy are important, but must be supported by policies and systems capable of maintaining stability over the long term.
He said the ability of the government to sustain the progress achieved would ultimately determine the durability of its economic gains.
