Five-Month-Old Baby Stolen at Asafo Market, Family Appeals for Help
Family says the baby disappeared after his mother briefly left him sleeping outside their store at the market.

A five-month-old baby boy has reportedly been stolen by an unidentified woman at Asafo Market in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region.
The missing child, identified as Akwasi Banahene, was reportedly taken from the Cape Coast Bus Terminal area of the market on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
According to the child’s uncle, Osei Kuffour, the baby’s mother had left him sleeping in front of their store while she prepared food early in the morning.
He said the suspect, believed to be a woman in her late 30s, had been sitting near the store before the incident.
“The mother is a food vendor and was preparing food around 5 a.m. in the morning. The child was sleeping, so she left him in front of the store, just at the very place she was working,” he said.
Mr Kuffour explained that the mother briefly turned away to get something, but upon returning, she discovered that both the baby and the woman were gone.
“The suspect is a woman we don’t know in the area. She was sitting close to the store. The mother had turned from the store to get something but returned to see both the baby and the woman gone,” he added.
The family has since reported the incident to the police and is appealing to the public to assist in efforts to locate the missing baby and reunite him with his family.
