Kenyasi: Prison Officers, Inmates Accused of Machete Attack on Man
A Kenyasi resident is receiving treatment after allegedly being attacked with machetes by prison officers and inmates over claims of yam theft.

Two prison officers and three inmates at the Kenyasi Settlement Camp Prison in the Ahafo Region have allegedly attacked a man with machetes, leaving him with multiple injuries.
The victim, Opoku Afriyie, a resident of Kenyasi No. 2 who works as a sound system operator and commercial motorbike rider, is currently receiving treatment at the Asutifi North District Hospital.
According to Mr Afriyie, the incident occurred on Thursday while he was transporting a passenger on his motorbike.
He alleged that a prison officer and three inmates intercepted him and attacked him with machetes after accusing him of stealing yams from the officer’s farm.
Mr Afriyie said he sustained wounds to several parts of his body, including his arms, legs, abdomen and neck.
He further alleged that another prison officer later arrived at the scene, handcuffed him and took him to the Kenyasi Settlement Camp Prison.
According to him, while at the prison, another officer allegedly slapped him several times before he was eventually handed over to the Kenyasi Police.
Police officers who reportedly observed the extent of his injuries arranged for him to be taken to the Asutifi North District Hospital, where he remains on admission.
Mr Afriyie said he continues to experience severe pain and expressed concern that those he accused of attacking him have not yet been arrested.
He has appealed to the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that the matter is properly addressed.
The Asutifi District Police Command, led by Superintendent Harold Yamoah Ponkor, has commenced investigations into the case.
Meanwhile, Mr Afriyie is appealing for financial assistance to help cover his medical expenses.
