British Woman Rescued in Malawi Operation That Left Four Suspected Kidnappers Dead

A 47-year-old British woman who was kidnapped in Malawi nearly a week ago has been rescued during a police operation that left four suspected kidnappers dead and a senior police officer injured.
Nusrat Osman was freed on Thursday on the outskirts of Blantyre, in southern Malawi, according to police.
Authorities said officers exchanged gunfire with the suspected kidnappers, who were reportedly armed with an AK-47 rifle and a pistol. Police said the four suspects were shot during the operation and later died from their injuries after being taken to hospital.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Noel Kayira, who took part in the operation, was also wounded by gunfire. He was taken to hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Following her rescue, Osman was reunited with her family and taken to hospital for medical treatment and physical and mental health assessments, according to local media reports.
