Ayine Renews Call For GBA To Stay Clear Of Partisan Politics

Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has renewed his call for the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) to maintain a clear distance from partisan politics.
Dr Ayine said some recent actions and positions of the association have created the perception that it is aligning with particular political interests, warning that such perceptions could undermine the GBA’s independence and credibility.
He made the remarks in a statement delivered on his behalf by Deputy Attorney General, Dr Justice Srem-Sai.
Dr Ayine stressed that his call should not be interpreted as asking the GBA to remain silent on national issues. He said the association should remain active in public discourse while maintaining independence from political parties and political convenience.
He noted that the GBA has an important role in defending democratic principles but must ensure that its interventions are guided by consistency, independence and principle.
Meanwhile, Dr Ayine announced plans by government to introduce a Legal Practitioners Standards Bill aimed at strengthening professional standards within the legal profession.
The proposed legislation is expected to address disciplinary matters involving lawyers and introduce measures to prevent the abuse of legal processes.
