The death toll from devastating floods in Nepal has risen to 1,410, according to the Nepal National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
Authorities said 5,650 people remain missing, while search and rescue operations continue in the worst-hit areas, including the Rasuwa region near the Chinese border.
A total of 21,185 security personnel have been deployed to support search and rescue efforts, distribute relief supplies, recover bodies and respond to other emergencies.
The floods in Rasuwa on August 26 reportedly destroyed dozens of bridges and damaged major roads, forcing authorities to use helicopters in rescue operations.
Glacier Collapse Linked To Disaster
Experts have linked the disaster to a glacial collapse and avalanche in the mountainous region.
The U.S. Geological Survey initially reported that an earthquake had occurred before the floods but later updated its assessment, saying the 5.2-magnitude seismic activity was caused by a glacial collapse.
Experts from the International Centre for Mountain Development in Kathmandu also said the flooding was triggered by an avalanche after fragments of a glacier broke away from the mountains.
