  • Some offenders could face prosecution and future recruitment bans.

The Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, has disclosed that several recruits have been dismissed from security service training institutions after investigations uncovered forged and altered WASSCE results.

According to him, the fraudulent documents were detected during verification by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

He said authorities are taking steps to prevent individuals who falsify their academic records from gaining future opportunities within Ghana’s security services.

The Minister warned that some of those found culpable could also face prosecution.

Speaking at the commissioning of newly constructed classroom facilities at the Asokore Mampong Roman Catholic School, Muntaka expressed concern that applicants seeking to join institutions responsible for national security would attempt to enter using fraudulent academic credentials.

He noted that applicants to the Police Service, Prisons Service, Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Narcotics Control Commission and Armed Forces should expect their certificates to undergo proper verification.

“As we speak, many have been dismissed from the training because they have doctored their results slips,” he said.

Muntaka urged prospective applicants to be truthful about their academic qualifications and ensure they meet the required criteria before applying to join any security service.

The disclosure comes as authorities intensify the verification of academic credentials as part of efforts to prevent applicants with fraudulent documents from entering Ghana’s security services.
